Qatar seeks closer ties with Gambia


The emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, has sent a special envoy to Gambia on Friday to help the country’s efforts in transitioning to democracy.

Dr Ali Bin Fetais Al Marri, the Attorney General of the Gulf State, has held a meeting with President Adama Barrow on Friday as relations between Qatar and Gambia strengthens.

Qatar, a close friend to Gambia, has recently had a difficult relations with several Arab states including Saudi Arabia.

“We have realized that the president can do something for this nation and Gambians deserve support from the international community…,” Dr Al Marri told journalists after his meeting with President Barrow.

Dr Al Marri is a special advocate for United Nations in combating corruption.

He said Qatar will help Gambia build strong nation, a nation that will be governed by rule of law and anti-corruption.

Meanwhile, the Faisal Fahad Abdalah Almana, ambassador of Qatar to Gambia, has also presented his credentials to President Barrow prior to his meeting Dr Al Marri.
