President Adama Barrow said Fabakary Tombong Jatta (FTJ) in 2017 told him that the UDP would betray him (Adama Barrow).

“When Allah gives you leadership, he gives you another thing which is knowledge. I will tell you one history here today in this gathering. When Seedy Njie brought him (Fabakary Tombong Jatta) to me, we had a long discussion. During our discussion, he told me something that made me feel so sad that day. But I know that he has wisdom because he is a leader. He said to me, President Barrow, ‘we all agree that you won the election and we will all support you but there is one thing you should be mindful of’. He told me that the party I belong to is UDP and he (FTJ) swore to me and said that UDP will betray me. The way I responded to him, through my response he (FTJ) knew that I was not happy.

“But what he added on top of that statement was that he (FTJ) told me that he can support him (President Barrow) but he can never support the UDP. That was in 2017 and we are in 2021. Now all that he said all became true now. UDP planned a betrayal against me and we separated. I formed my political party. Fabakary Tombong Jatta came and joined me. So if they don’t go back, I will not go back,” President Barrow stated.

President Barrow made these remarks on Saturday 16 October 2021 during his NPP party’s mega rally in Sukuta on the West Coast Region.
