NA adjourns motion for extension of State of Public Emergency

The National Assembly of The Gambia on Thursday  adjourned the motion for the extension of the State of Public Emergency for 90 days which is in accordance with section 34(2) of the 1997 constitution of the Republic of The Gambia.

While tabling the motion before the lawmakers, Abubacarr Tambadou, Attorney General and minister of Justice said that there is a serious issue going on not only in the country but globally.
Prior to adjournment, Halifa Sallah, National Assembly member for Serekunda move a motion pursuant to section 53(c) of the National Assembly standing order for the motion to be refer to the human right and constitutional committee to look into the technicality.

The session is adjourned for Friday 3rd April 2020, for the whole house to debate on the motion
It could be recalled that the President Adama Barrow made a declaration in a televised statement on Friday 27th March which is designed to stem the spread of the deadly covid-19.

The first declaration is excepted to elapsed Friday 3rd April 2020.
