The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) has on Friday launched the National Committee for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
The establishment of the TVET Committee aims to maintain the highest standards of quality, relevance, and inclusivity across all TVET and apprenticeship endeavors nationwide. Dr. Yusupha Touray emphasized the importance of forming the committee, underscoring its pivotal role in shaping the future of vocational education.
“Here today we have been given the resources by our partners, including the World Bank and others, but if we want to get into it without a body like this to sit and work with us to organize ourselves, we would get it wrong. So it is for this reason that the honorable minister (of Higher Education) felt we should bring together, set up a committee, take this matter seriously, and work accordingly to ensure that we Chang the narratives, and that is the technical education,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technical) Mucktarr M.Y. Darboe underscores that the success of the TVET program hinges on collective efforts.
“As we embark on this journey, let us remember that the success of our TVET program relies on collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision for the future. Together we can transform the Gambia TVET sector, empowering our youth and driving sustainable development across the country,” Mr Darboe said.
By fostering collaboration among key stakeholders such as education providers, industry leaders, and policymakers, the Committee endeavors to ensure that TVET programs not only meet rigorous quality standards but also adapt to the evolving needs of the job market.
As the National TVET Committee embarks on its mission to establish new standards of excellence in vocational training, its positive impact is expected to reverberate across various sectors of the national economy, unlocking fresh opportunities for individual and national development.
