Gambia’s first ever elected Mayoress, Rohey Lowe, has taken oath of office to take the mantle of leadership in country’s capital, Banjul.

Lowe takes the leadership from Abdoulie Bah, an independent candidate who has served as mayor of Banjul for four years.

“I am a mayor for everyone,” she said as she took oath on Tuesday.

Banjul currently struggles with several challenges including poor road network, poor sewage system and poor waste management system, among others.

“This is a big day for Banjul,” said the United Democratic Party spokesperson Almameh Taal.

Omar BJ Touray was elected as the deputy mayor of Banjul.
