The Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) has sympathised with the families of the four servicemen who lost their lives in a fatal accident on Thursday.

“On behalf of the larger GMC Family at home and abroad, and on my own behalf – with profound grief and deep sorrow – I express our condolences to the families, loved ones of our Patriotic and Gallant service men, who died in active duty, in solemn service to our country,” GMC leader, Mai Ahmed Fatty said in a statement on Facebook earlier Friday.

He said this is a sober reminder of the ultimate sacrifice and uncertain vulnerabilities the men and women in uniform are exposed to, each day, to maintain peace, stability, to honour, preserve, and protect our nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We pray that the Almighty Allah Receives their souls in Paradise, the fortitude for their families, loved ones, friends and the entire Gambian Nation, to muster this enormous national tragedy. We also pray for Allah’s Solace and Mercy upon the injured and strength for the survivors and all those connected to this great tragedy.

“We commiserate with H.E President Barrow, The Gambia Armed Forces, The Gambia Police Force, the Government and all citizens of our Republic. We join the Nation in mourning, during a very difficult period for our country. While keeping the indelible memory of our patriots in our hearts and prayers, The Gambia is a resilient nation, and a caring citizenry, and together, we shall grief, to rise triumphantly again. As a nation, our destinies are inextricably connected and together, we shall overcome every conceivable challenge,” the GMC leader  continued.

The GMC leader urged citizens to remain committed to each other, and remain loyal to the Republic of The Gambia, as the nation pays homage and bid heroic farewell to the patriots.
