Musa Drammeh, Minister of Fisheries, Water Resources, and National Assembly Matters, has leveled sharp criticism at the United Democratic Party (UDP), accusing the country’s largest opposition party of pursuing coalition negotiations out of political desperation rather than strategic strength.

Addressing supporters of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) in Farato Sotokoi Daru, Minister Drammeh noted the apparent contradiction between the UDP’s earlier confidence ahead of the December presidential election and its current overtures toward opposition alliance-building.

“They are desperate. If they weren’t, they would not be joining others to form a coalition. Do not be shaken by this,” he told the gathering.

Drawing on the 2021 presidential election as evidence of the NPP’s electoral dominance, Drammeh noted that President Adama Barrow’s vote share had nearly doubled the combined total of all opposition candidates—a margin he predicted would only widen in the upcoming contest.

The minister expressed confidence that the ruling party remained firmly on course, contrasting what he described as the opposition’s misguided strategy with the NPP’s position of strength. He maintained that even a fully unified opposition would fall short against the NPP at the polls.

The UDP and several other opposition parties have recently engaged in exploratory coalition discussions ahead of the December 5 presidential election, though no formal alliance has been publicly announced.
