Scenes of grief and heightened emotion unfolded at the Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after Principal Magistrate Sallah Mbye ordered the remand of Momodou Bah, who is charged with the murder of Ba Yunusa M’bai Mbye.

The accused was ordered to be remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison pending his appearance before the High Court, which has jurisdiction to hear murder cases.

The ruling prompted an emotional reaction from colleagues, friends, and relatives of the deceased, many of whom had gathered in the courtroom for the proceedings. Several broke down in tears as the court concluded the matter, openly mourning the loss of their friend and colleague.

As the proceedings ended, emotions intensified among some members of the public present in court. A number of individuals expressed dissatisfaction with the remand order, arguing that it did not reflect the gravity of the allegations before the court.

Tensions later spilled outside the courthouse when police officers moved to escort the accused to a waiting vehicle for transfer to Mile 2 Central Prison.

Witnesses said a group of associates of the deceased briefly obstructed the path of the police escort vehicle, chanting and expressing anger over the killing. Some individuals were heard making threats against the accused as officers sought to maintain order and ensure his safe transfer from the court premises.

Police personnel intervened to prevent any breach of security and eventually succeeded in escorting the accused away from the scene.

The incident underscored the deep sense of loss and anger felt by those close to the deceased, whose death has generated considerable public attention.

Momodou Bah remains in custody and is expected to appear before the High Court, where the matter will proceed in accordance with the law. No plea has yet been taken, and the charge against him remains an allegation until proven in court.
