The Coalition Taskforce Mediation Committee (CTMC) has concluded its 7th Strategic Session at the Baobab Hotel and formally launched the nomination process for a Coalition Flagbearer ahead of the December 5th, 2026 Presidential Election.
In an official press statement issued Sunday, the CTMC announced that invitations were extended to all participating parties and movements on Saturday, following a full day of deliberations. The session addressed several key agenda items, including a review of the 25-Point Common Agenda for national reform, the adoption of a Coalition Framework for governance and accountability, and the finalization of eligibility criteria for flagbearer selection.
In his opening address, CTMC Chairman Professor Yerro Mballow underscored the imperative of discipline and unity among opposition parties.
“The only solution to all the problems of The Gambia is the unity of the opposition. I urge all opposition parties to unite around a shared vision for the betterment of our nation,” he said.
Prof. Mballow further reminded delegates that the coalition process remains bound by a strict code of conduct.
The session was hosted by Her Excellency Former Vice President Fatoumata Jallow Tambajang, Leader of the Democratic Renaissance Party (DRP), who welcomed delegates and drew on lessons from the historic 2016 coalition experience.
She called on political leaders to prioritize national interest above partisan considerations, citing persistent challenges including corruption, deteriorating healthcare, declining educational standards, and rising youth unemployment.
“History will not judge us by the speeches we make today,” she said. “It will judge us by the courage we show, the unity we build, and the solutions we deliver for the Gambian people.”
Tambajang reaffirmed the DRP’s ten core priorities under the banner of “The Gambia First,” encompassing democratic governance, gender parity, youth empowerment, economic sovereignty, and climate stewardship.
CTMC Secretary Mr. Ebrima S. Bah presented the minutes from the previous session, hosted by the People’s Alliance Party, and moved for their adoption. The plenary approved the minutes with amendments.
All coalition participants have been formally requested to submit flagbearer nominees to the CTMC Secretariat in accordance with the eligibility criteria agreed upon at the Baobab Hotel. The committee will review submissions and oversee a consensus-driven process aimed at identifying one credible candidate to represent the Coalition for Competence and National Unity.
The 8th Strategic Session is scheduled for Saturday, June 13th, 2026, and will be hosted by Essa Bokar Sey, Leader of Forward Gambia, at Metzy Residence, Senegambia.
