Nominated National Assembly Member and National Youth Secretary General of the National People’s Party, Kebba Lang Fofana has launched a sharp critique of the United Democratic Party (UDP), accusing the opposition party of lacking policy ideas and being driven primarily by the pursuit of political power.
Speaking in an interview with Eye Africa TV, Fofana argued that the UDP has failed to present meaningful ideas since its establishment and said he would not support any opposition coalition led by the party.
According to Fofana, a coalition under the UDP’s leadership would be aimed at weakening its political partners rather than fostering genuine collaboration.
“UDP from inception to date, they have no ideas; the only thing they have is that they are hungry for power. That is why today, if I were an opposition party leader in this country, I would not be in any coalition that is going to be party-led by the UDP,” he said.
Fofana further asserted that the National People’s Party (NPP) and its alliance partners constitute the country’s only genuine political alliance, while describing the opposition as fragmented and lacking unity.
He also claimed that a UDP-led coalition would discourage the participation of other opposition parties, arguing that the party does not accord its political rivals adequate respect.
“UDP’s primary intention is to kill those parties. Today, if UDP leads a coalition in this country, UMC is not going to see themselves in that coalition; we all know Fatoumatta Jallow Tambajang’s relationship with Ousainou Darboe. UDP did not respect any other political party in this country aside from themselves,” he stated.
Fofana also criticized the candidate-led coalition model currently being discussed among some opposition groups. He argued that such an arrangement would be susceptible to manipulation, alleging that the Unite movement would seek to dominate the process.
“If I were in UDP, I would not be in any coalition that is going to be candidate led because we all know that UMC is the most manipulative party in this country. They are going to manipulate the system until they impose themselves in the coalition arrangement,” he said.
His remarks come as opposition parties continue to explore various coalition models ahead of the country’s next presidential election, with discussions centering on whether a party-led or candidate-led alliance offers the best prospect for unseating the incumbent government.
