Mai Ahmed Fatty, the leader and secretary general of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), said on Sunday that his party’s contribution to the National People’s Party (NPP)-led alliance is its commitment to moral leadership, honesty, and integrity, while emphasizing that the GMC remains an independent political organization.

Addressing delegates at the party’s sixth national congress, Mr. Fatty said the GMC was founded on the principles of decency and integrity and that those values continue to define its political identity and engagement.

“What we bring to the alliance is our moral compass. We bring decency and integrity as living, working political values, not as rhetoric but as practice,” he told party members.

Mr. Fatty reaffirmed the GMC’s support for President Adama Barrow and the governing alliance, saying the party remained fully committed to the coalition’s national development agenda and would work toward Mr. Barrow’s re-election in the December 2026 presidential election.

“We stand with President Barrow and will ensure his landslide victory in December 2026. We support the alliance’s program of national development; that commitment is unequivocal and honorably given,” he said.

He stressed, however, that the GMC’s participation in the alliance does not diminish its autonomy, noting that the party continues to operate under its own constitution, principles, membership, and political mandate.

“The GMC remains an independent political party guided by its own values and convictions,” he said.

Mr. Fatty also called for leadership grounded in honesty, public service, and accountability, arguing that Gambians deserve leaders who govern with integrity, uphold transparency, and remain accountable to the public.

He added that the GMC has strengthened the alliance by contributing its grassroots structures across all seven administrative regions.

“In coalition, we are stronger together, but the GMC flag never comes down,” he said.
