Amadou Jaiteh, leader of the PROGRESS Movement, has called on authorities to take action against Deputy Speaker Seedy Njie over allegations of interference in the ongoing voter registration process.

Speaking in an interview with West Coast Radio, Jaiteh expressed concern that the deputy speaker’s alleged involvement in registration activities could undermine the integrity and neutrality of a critical democratic exercise.

“There are political operatives in this country that are very much known for this. They are notorious for being involved in every malpractice in this country, and one to single out is Seedy Njie, the deputy speaker of the House. For every issue at every polling station, he is there,” Jaiteh said.

He argued that the Office of the Deputy Speaker demands strict impartiality, warning that any perception of political bias could erode public trust in democratic institutions.

“This is a man that is actually in the office of another branch of governance, Parliament, a very reputable office in another jurisdiction; he should be neutral and should not be seen as blatantly partisan,” he said.

Jaiteh further alleged that the Deputy Speaker’s actions point to a broader pattern of political interference, including claims of involvement in questionable voter registration practices.

“He is going there, interfering, and all the accusations that are happening, the registrations that are happening, bringing foreigners from different places across the border,” he alleged.

Additionally, Jaiteh accused Njie of using his influence to interfere in police investigations and secure the release of individuals under scrutiny.

“All this he is doing is causing discord in the community, and we do not want someone in such an office to be involved in that. This man must be restrained from such dirty politics in this country,” he said.
