Foreign Ministry seeks Melville’s suspension, asks him to return within 7 days
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has written to Melville Roberts, the Ministry’s head of America Division, asking him to return to the country within 7 days.
Roberts faces several allegations of rape from over a dozen Gambian girls and the Justice Ministry announced on Monday that it is opening inquiry into allegations against him.
The Foreign Ministry informed Roberts in a letter written to him on Monday and leaked online that they have asked the Personnel Management Office and Public Service Commission to suspend him, pending the outcome of the investigation into rape allegations against him.
Roberts is currently in UK where he has graduated with Masters in International Law and Diplomacy at Oxford University.
The Ministry asked him to return within 7 days or they will nullify his diplomatic passport and inform the UK authorities.
Kerr Fatou has learned that the Ministry will issue a press statement on Tuesday to inform the public of the steps it has taken in Roberts’ case.
Meanwhile, Roberts has refuted allegations of rape against him as baseless.
