The National Roads Authority (NRA) has issued a public warning against the unauthorized installation of speed humps without prior approval from the authority, saying the practice poses serious safety risks and violates engineering standards.

“The NRA expresses serious concern over the continued occurrence of such activities by individuals on both existing and newly constructed roads across the country,” the authority stated.

In a press release on Monday, the authority advised the public to refrain from this practice, stating that individuals found engaging in such practices will be subject to strict penalties in accordance with applicable regulations.

The NRA noted that, as the sole authority responsible for road infrastructure in The Gambia, it adheres to specific engineering standards and procedures in the design and installation of speed control measures.

It added that compliance with these standards is essential to ensure the safety and efficiency of the national road network, calling on everyone to work collectively in maintaining clean and orderly roads:
“A well-maintained road environment is a shared national responsibility and contributes to safety, efficiency, and national pride.”

The National Roads Authority stated that it remains committed to delivering a safe, efficient, and reliable road network that supports economic growth and national development. “Public cooperation is essential in achieving safer, congestion-free roads for all.”
