The Gambia Navy and a French military Mobile Training Team began a two-week joint exercise at the Gambia Armed Forces’ Forward Operating Base in Yundum, aimed at enhancing the tactical skills and operational readiness of Gambian troops.

The training involves 40 personnel and is led by Staff Sergeant Catch of the French contingent. According to a statement from the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), the program is designed to provide hands-on instruction in weapon handling, combat positioning, and casualty care—critical skills for both conventional military operations and peace support missions.

“The training will provide participants hands-on instruction in weapon manipulation, combat postures and positioning, as well as casualty care during combat situations, which are essential skills for modern battlefield and peace support operations,” GAF said in a press release.

In addition to technical training, the exercise is intended to deepen military cooperation between The Gambia and France, fostering mutual learning and professional development among their armed forces. GAF emphasized that such collaborations underscore a shared commitment to regional stability and the creation of a more responsive, capable Gambian military.

“The exercise reflects the growing partnership between the Gambia Armed Forces and international allies in building capacity to address evolving security challenges,” the statement added.
