Peter Obi to Visit Gambia for Rafela National Conference

Peter Obi, a Nigerian presidential aspirant and former governor of Anambra State, is expected to arrive in The Gambia next week as the chief guest of honor at a two-day national conference organized by Refela Africa.
The conference, scheduled for March 10 and 11 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center, was announced by Rohey Malick Lowe, the mayor of Banjul and president of Refela Africa.
The gathering is expected to bring together a range of political leaders, civil society representatives, and religious figures from across the region and beyond. Among those anticipated are Adama Sarr, the mayor of Keur Massar; Abigail Marshall, the mayor of Leeds; the veteran Gambian politician Fatoumatta Jallow Tambajang; and Seedy Njie, deputy speaker of the National Assembly.
Organizers say the conference will focus on the theme “Accelerating Representation, Safeguarding, and Strengthening Women’s Rights.” The event is intended to promote women’s leadership in local government, encourage networking among women leaders and advocates, and explore policies aimed at advancing regional development.
In a video message announcing the program, Mayor Lowe said that the main training sessions would take place on March 11 and 12 and would be limited to 50 selected participants. The sessions, she said, will be led by experts from several African countries, including The Gambia, and will focus on strengthening women’s capacity for effective governance.
Ms. Lowe also said that a town hall meeting would be organized for Nigerians living in The Gambia, providing an opportunity for members of the diaspora to engage directly with Mr. Obi on issues affecting their community.
She encouraged the public to attend the conference, describing it as an important platform for advancing women’s leadership and dialogue on governance across Africa.
