Managing Director, Gambia Ports Authority (GPA), Ousman Jobarteh, told Parliament that upon completion, his institution would make public the report of the ongoing National Audit Office probe into the alleged corruption involving staff of the institution.

However, he said the GPA can’t release the preliminary investigative report, saying they don’t want the names mentioned to be subjected to public opinion, while police investigations into the matter are ongoing.

“When the experts are ready with their report, we will make that one public for everybody. The reason we did not make the other one public is because that one is just a preliminary report and its inconclusive and there were names mentioned  and it will not be fair for those people…, if the Aduit office (findings) is to come different,” he told members.

The GPA leader made the remarks on Thursday while appearing, before the National Assembly petition committee regarding a petition alleging “massive theft and fraud” involving certain staff of his institution.

Earlier this year, a group dubbed “Concerned Citizens” in a petition alleged that several staff of GPA of involving in “massive theft and fraud” allegedly leading to the disappearance of millions of Dalasi; and the petition further alleged that employees at the GPA Rating Unit were issuing “fake receipts, undercutting fees, and collecting bribes and inducements” from 2020 to 2022, also allegedly resulting in the stealing of D4 million per week.
