Yahya Menteng Sanyang, National Assembly Member for Latrikunda Sabiji, has called on voters in Kaiaf Ward to support the United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate, Sulayman Sanneh, in the upcoming councillorship by-election scheduled for January 2026.
In a statement released on Friday, Sanyang—who was formerly a member of the UDP before joining the Unite Movement for Change—formally endorsed Sanneh, describing him as a committed youth leader with a strong record of community service.
“I hereby endorse Mr. Sulayman Sanneh, the UDP-sponsored candidate for the Kaiaf Ward councillorship by-election,” Sanyang said. “Mr. Sanneh is a dedicated youth leader committed to community development. His participation in the Mansakonko Area Council will go a long way in championing the cause of our young people.”
Hon. Sanyang also urged residents of Kaiaf and surrounding communities to remain vigilant as the nomination and election process approaches, cautioning against what he described as inducements by politicians from the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).
“We must learn from the Massembeh by-election, where the NPP attempted to sway voters with failed road construction projects,” he stated.
He further warned voters to reject any financial inducements intended to sway their support, stressing that the by-election should be viewed as an investment in the future.
“The millions of dalasis they may distribute to win this seat should be rejected. This election is about the future of your children. Do not be swayed by empty promises; remember that President Barrow himself once suggested that campaign promises are merely tools to get votes, with no intent of fulfillment. The NPP politicians have learned this lesson well,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the ruling party would be defeated in Kaiaf Ward, as was the case in the Massembeh by-election. “The NPP lost in Massembeh, and they must lose here too. Let this be a clear signal that Gambians are ready for change in 2026,” he said.
Sanyang also described Sanneh as a candidate who would work tirelessly in the interest of the people and called on voters to reject the NPP candidate.
“Reject the NPP candidate, for he serves a government that is already an “opposition in waiting.” Do not be enticed by temporary privileges; President Barrow’s administration is nearing its end,” he concluded.
