Trust Bank on Monday delivered medical and essential supplies worth D200,000 to the Bundung Maternal and Child Health Hospital, extending the financial institution’s annual commitment to supporting the country’s overstretched healthcare system.

The donation, part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility program, included medical consumables, office supplies, cleaning materials, electronic equipment, and detergents, items hospital officials say are indispensable to maintaining daily clinical and administrative operations at one of the busiest maternal health facilities in The Gambia.

Speaking on behalf of Trust Bank’s managing director, Amie Kolleh Secka, the bank’s head of sales and public relations said the contribution reflects the institution’s recognition of Bundung Hospital’s central role in providing life-saving care to women and children. She noted that thousands of women and newborns continue to die each year from preventable pregnancy-related complications, a reality the bank hopes to help confront through continued support.

“Every year, thousands of women and newborns suffer loss of their lives due to complications during pregnancy and childbirth. However, with institutions like Bundung Maternal Hospital and your unwavering dedication to providing comprehensive maternal care, we are making strides towards reducing maternal mortality and improving outcomes for women in our society,” she said.

Ms. Secka added that the bank intends to deepen its partnership with the hospital, citing rising patient numbers and persistent resource gaps.

“We at Trust Bank are proud to stand beside you as you continue to make a significant impact. As you all know, the issue of maternal mortality remains a critical challenge globally, and here in The Gambia, access to quality maternal health care is paramount,” she said.

Dr. Mamady Cham, the hospital’s chief executive officer, welcomed the donation, describing Trust Bank as a longstanding and reliable partner. He noted that the bank has supported hospitals across the country since 2019, including facilities in Farafenni, and called for similar interventions from other institutions.

“Trust Bank since 2019 they have been doing it for Farafenni and then other hospitals. I think they need to be commended for what they have done for the health sector,” he said.

Hospital officials say the latest contribution will ease operational pressures and help sustain essential maternal and child health services for the surrounding communities.
