Seven Men Plead Guilty to Public Order Offences at Kanifing Magistrate’s Court

Seven individuals have pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer and causing a public nuisance, in a case prosecuted by ASP O. Bobb on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court.
The accused are Muhammad Gassama, Alieu Leigh, Modou Sanyang, Dodou Nyang, Kering Minteh, Badou Cham, and Lamin Sey. They faced three counts of criminal offences:
· Count One: Assaulting a Police Officer
Muhammad Gassama is alleged to have “wilfully obstructed and assaulted 1st Class 7826 Pierre Jatta by holding him by the neck and striking him on the face” while the officer was performing his duties on August 10, 2025, at Kololi Tavan in the Kanifing Municipality.
· Count Two: Affray
Alieu Leigh, Modou Sanyang, and Dodou Nyang are accused of participating in a fight in a public place on the same day and location.
· Count Three: Common Nuisance
Initially, all seven accused were charged with “conducting themselves in a manner likely to occasion a breach of the peace” on August 10, 2025. Following an application by ASP Bobb under Section 218 of the Criminal Offences Act, the court amended the charge to include all seven defendants.
Presiding Magistrate Touray approved the amendment and instructed the prosecution to revise the charge sheet before the next hearing.
All seven defendants entered guilty pleas, and the case has been adjourned for the narration of facts and sentencing.
