Sanyang Hails Coalition 2026 as Gambia’s Most Recognised Political Alliance, Rallies Support for Bensouda

Yahya Menteng Sanyang, the National Assembly Member for Latrikunda Sabiji and Deputy Party Leader for Finance and Administration of the UNITE Party, has described Coalition 2026 as The Gambia’s most recognised political alliance, calling on political leaders and voters to rally behind its presidential candidate, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, ahead of the December 2026 election.
Addressing supporters at a Coalition 2026 rally in Bakoteh, Sanyang asserted that the alliance had gained widespread recognition and was emerging as a leading political force in the country.
“This is the coalition that is recognised by Gambians, and all Gambians should support this coalition. Coalition 2026, we are the ones leading. I am urging all politicians to join hands and campaign,” he said.
Sanyang urged residents of Kanifing Municipality to support Bensouda, citing his decade-long tenure as mayor as evidence of his leadership and ability to deliver development despite budgetary constraints.
He argued that Bensouda could achieve significantly more at the national level, where he would have access to greater financial resources and broader executive authority.
The lawmaker also portrayed the coalition as an opportunity for young people and women to support a presidential candidate he believes is capable of addressing the country’s pressing challenges.
Turning to the broader political landscape, Sanyang claimed that the emergence of the UNITE Party had altered the dynamics of the December presidential race, arguing that President Adama Barrow had initially anticipated facing little serious opposition in his bid for re-election.
He maintained that the formation of UNITE and its participation in Coalition 2026 had introduced a new political force capable of mounting a formidable challenge to the incumbent.
Sanyang concluded by urging coalition supporters to remain united, intensify their grassroots mobilization, and work collectively to secure victory for Bensouda in the December presidential election.
