President Barrow receives U.N. security sector reform assessment mission

Bureng, Lower River Region, 27th November 2019 – President Barrow on Wednesday held a closed-door audience with a high-level United Nations Security Sector Reforms (SSR) Assessment team at the Governor’s Residence in Janjangbureh, Central River Region.

The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the ongoing President’s Meet the People, was called to brief the president on the mission of the UN assessment team in the country.

According to the United Nations SSR Unit Chief, Mr. Adedeji EBO, the assessment team would map out international stakeholders who are undertaking or planning SSR initiatives in The Gambia and recommend mechanisms to strengthen coordination.

The mandate of the team also includes assessing the opportunities and challenges (political, institutional and operational) in the national SSR process, including the current security situation, among others.

The team was led by the Resident Coordinators of the UN and the UNDP in The Gambia, Ms Aissata De and Ms Seraphine Wakana, respectively.
