Ebrima Tabora Manneh, Leader and Secretary General of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP), has stated in a recent television interview that The Gambia could earn up to $1 billion annually from its fisheries sector if the nation fully harnesses its marine resources.
“We can have one billion dollars alone from the fisheries sector every year. If you look at a small country like Norway they are generating more than 15 billion dollars from their fisheries department and in the Gambia our fish are among the best that is why we have people from China, Europe, Turkey, and Senegal all fishing here and we are not utilizing that,” he said.
He further criticized the dominance of non-Gambians in key economic sectors and attributed unsustainable living conditions to government mismanagement. He emphasized that the PAP’s economic agenda will focus on protecting and developing the Gambian economy for the benefit of its citizens.
“Our vision is to make The Gambia the best country in Africa, better than Senegal and Mauritania,” he said.
On the 2026 elections, Tabora Manneh says that the PAP remains focused on its goal of national change and that they are going to listen to the recently released CepRass survey.
“The 2026 elections are our target, which is our main primary concern. What we want is change and I believe change is going to happen. The survey is good, we are going to listen to it but we are focused on our agenda more than the survey,” he said.
