The National People’s Party Administrative Secretary Seedy Ceesay in an interview with West Coast Radio, has questioned the plans of opposition parties to address the cost of living, saying that critics of the government must also present practical solutions to the challenges facing Gambians.
He said that while opposition parties have raised concerns about the rising cost of living, they have not provided clear and practical solutions on how they would address the issue if allowed to govern.
He also says that political change should not only be based on criticism of the current government but should also include a clear plan for addressing national challenges.
“It is one thing to say let the opposition come together, but it is another thing for our citizens to ask them, what will you do? You are saying this cost of living is this. What will you do to take it away?” he said.
He also compared the current opposition coalition discussions to the 2016 opposition alliance, saying that the main issue at the time was not the cost of living but the need to restore freedom, sanity, and dignity in the country.
He said the circumstances leading up to the 2026 election are different and that opposition parties must explain their plans to voters.
“None of these opposition leaders have come out to give us a pragmatic solution to the cost of living today; in fact, they are out there doing the worst,” he said.
He added that while opposition parties may discuss forming alliances, Gambians should also consider what those alliances intend to deliver for the country.
He also says that the NPP government still has to work hard to win more hearts and minds of Gambians.
