Nineteen Female Candidates Electioneering Ahead Of April Polls

The 19 female candidates contesting in the 9th April parliamentary election are canvassing votes in their various constituencies.
Like their male opponents of the rest of the 251 candidates endorsed by the commission to contest in the election, they began their campaign on 17th March and would end it on 7th April 2022.
Except in the Mansankonko administrative area, the candidates are racing against time in the rest of the administrative areas, convincing electorates to vote for them on the election day.
Aminata T.B. Jarra of the Gambia for All (GFA) for Banjul Central constituency; and independent candidate Fatoumatta Njai for Banjul South constituency are campaigning in the Banjul administrative area.
Yakumba Jaiteh of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for Serekunda constituency; Nenneh Freeda Gomez of the Citizens’ Alliance (CA) for Serekunda West constituency; Fatou K. Jawara of the National People’s Party (NPP) for Tallinding constituency; Aminata Correa of the People’s Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) for Latrikunda Sabiji constituency; and Fatou Sowe of the People’s Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) for Serekunda West Constituency are campaigning in the Kanifing Administrative Area.
Independent candidate Amie Colley for Foni Brefet Constituency; Kaddy Camara of the Alliance for Patriotic, Re-orientation Construction (APRC) for Foni Bondali constituency; Fatou Cham of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for Sanneh Mentereng constituency; independent candidate Maimuna Tamba for Old Yundum constituency; and Nyima Lisa Kujabi of the People’s Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) for Busumbala Constituency too, are campaigning in the Brikama Administrative Area.
Cheena Bah of the National Unity Party (NUP) for Jokadu constituency; and Maimuna Gaye of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for Sabach Sanjal constituency are also campaigning in the Kerewan Administrative Area.
Jarrai Fayenkeh of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for Janjanbureh constituency; Halimatou Sadia Sowe of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for Lower Saloum Constituency; Anty Rohey Ceesay of the National People’s Party (NPP) for Niani constituency; and MusuKebba Keita of the National People’s Party (NPP) for Sami Constituency are campaigning in the Janjanbureh Administrative Area.
Tida Kijera of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for Wuli West constituency, the only woman candidate contesting in the Basse Administrative Area, is also campaigning ahead of the April polls.
However, no woman candidate is contesting in the six constituencies in the Mansakonko Administrative Area, according to the list of candidates released on 15th March by IEC.
Meanwhile, the UDP sponsored 6 of the female candidates, PDOIS 3, NPP 3,while CA, GFA, APRC, and NUP each sponsored 1, and 3 are independent candidates.
In addition, all campaign activities are to end on 7th April according to the Independent Electoral Commission announcement.
