NDP Leader Urges Gambian Youths to Distinguish Between ‘Deceivers’ and Genuine Leaders

Kebba Madi Bojang, leader of the National Democratic Party, has urged young Gambians to scrutinize political leaders carefully and distinguish between those he described as seeking to deceive them and those genuinely committed to addressing their concerns.

Mr. Bojang made the remarks over the weekend at an NDP-NAFA Alliance rally in Nema Kunku, where he addressed young people across the country, “from Kartong to Koina.”

He said much has been said about Gambian youths, particularly during the political season, but argued that some politicians courting their support remain disconnected from the everyday realities young people face.

According to Mr. Bojang, such politicians often pass through communities without experiencing the conditions in which ordinary Gambians live, choosing instead to stay in hotels, particularly when visiting urban areas.

He urged young people to be wary of what he characterized as appealing political promises that are unlikely to be fulfilled. He accused some politicians of being motivated primarily by positions and personal interests rather than public service.

Mr. Bojang further argued that some political figures would readily switch allegiances if President Adama Barrow removed them from their government positions. He accused such individuals of spreading misinformation and relying on criticism and insults rather than offering solutions to the country’s problems.

Turning to his own alliance, Mr. Bojang said the NDP-NAFA Alliance had developed what he described as a concrete plan to “rescue” the country. He said the alliance’s agenda would go beyond political rhetoric and the pursuit of control over public resources.

He said the alliance intends to present its programme to Gambians and clearly outline its plans and priorities for the country.

Mr. Bojang concluded by expressing confidence in the alliance’s prospects in the Dec. 5 presidential election, predicting that the current government would no longer hold incumbent status after the vote.
