The United Democratic Party (UDP) Candidate for the upcoming Mayoral elections in the Kanifing Municipality, Lord Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda, said his council has the best record ever for any municipality in the Gambia.

“We have the best records ever for any municipality in the Gambia. Four years is a very short term and we have done a lot. We have completed some and some are in progress. But as far as I am concerned, we have been doing a very good job, and we have the best records ever for any municipality in the Gambia,” he said.

Mayor Bensouda said the achievements of his council are not for him to talk about or any politician to do so. Mayor Bensouda said it is for the residents of Kanifing Municipality (KM) to attest it through their votes.

“And already through the Councilors votes, we have passed the hardest huddle. Because the council is not for me, the council is for the councilors. They are the executive who makes all the decisions, but I set the vision and agenda. As far as I am concerned, the mission is accomplished. As far as having the mandate now is Left to the icing on the cake,” he said

Mayor Bensouda stated that the residents of KM have a lot of trust and confidence in him and his team.

“I think the people of KM have a lot of trust and confidence in me and my team, which is the honorable councilors, who are my backbone. For the work, we have done for them in the last five years. I think seeing is believing, it doesn’t matter what politicians say, The residents are the ones who will be the judge. Because they feel the impact of our work. So I think come May 20th, we will have the victory and that is because the residents of KM have the trust in us,” he started.

Mayor Bensouda of the main opposition UDP, is seeking re-election to a second term in office. His main challenger is the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) candidate, Bakary Y. Badjie, whom he defeated in the 2018 Mayoral Election.
