Kemo Bojang Says UNITE Would Pursue Two-Term Presidential Limit if Elected

Kemo Bojang, UNITE’s deputy party leader for political matters and media relations, said the party would make the introduction of a two-term presidential limit a priority if it wins the 2026 election, placing constitutional reform among its early policy objectives.

Speaking in an interview with Star TV, Bojang said UNITE would seek sufficient representation in the National Assembly to advance constitutional changes, including efforts to revive the 2020 draft Constitution.

“Two-term limit is part of UNITE’s goals if we win the elections,” Bojang said. “We believe that if we do elections, we will be able to win and be the majority in Parliament; we will bring term limits, and we will bring the 2020 draft Constitution. It’s our short-term plans.”

The 2020 draft Constitution, which included a two-term limit for presidents, failed to secure the required support in the National Assembly when lawmakers voted on the bill that year.

Bojang said UNITE would also focus on the economy, including examining measures aimed at addressing price fluctuations and expanding opportunities for young Gambians to enter the market and compete.

“We will look into price control,” he said. “People won’t be able to increase or reduce prices anyhow because that doesn’t stimulate the market or the economy.”

Rather than relying solely on controls, Bojang said the party would seek to increase competition by helping young people establish businesses and participate more actively in the economy.

“What you can do is to compete and help the youth so that they can come into the market and venture so that they can be able to tackle the market,” he said.

Education would also be part of the party’s reform agenda, Bojang said. He said UNITE plans to strengthen technical and vocational education and training and review the national education curriculum as part of broader efforts to improve the sector.

Bojang also expressed confidence in UNITE leader Talib Ahmed Bensouda’s prospects in the 2026 presidential election, describing him as a candidate capable of winning the race.

He said the party remains confident that Bensouda will emerge victorious in the presidential election.
