Marie Sock, the only female aspirant who filed her details to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) but could not make it to the cut, has endorsed UDP.

“We started this journey because we wanted to change the political system of this nation, and I have come to a decision that the United Democratic Party is one of the party (sick) that aligns with our road map of development.

“Today the 10th of November 2021, our planning committee has concluded on behalf of alliance of Social Democrats to join alliance with UDP to further promote our joint organization principles and policies.

“His excellency Honourable Ousainou Darboe and I has (sic) reached and concluded in aggrement (sic) to join forces together and uplift and rebrand the great party to climb the greather (sic) heights.

“I encourage all the Marie Sock Ambassadors ASD members and all Gambians all over the world to stand with me in this new direction. We are going to use this opportunity to change the phase of politics in the Gambia,” she said in a statement on Wednesday.

Following her disqualification by the electoral commission on Saturday, in a statement, she admitted to her supporters that her disqualification was based on her being a citizen of both The Gambia and the United States of America and the Gambian law does not allow aspirants with dual citizenship to contest for presidency.

However, she explained that she contacted the American embassy to renounce her citizenship but the situation at the embassy at the time did not allow her to do so.
