The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has identified 126 biometric passport applications in Spain with irregularities following the deployment of its Mobile Biometric Passport Team to Spain and Italy.

In a press release, the department stated that the affected applications remain pending due to inconsistencies detected during the verification process. According to the statement, the discrepancies involve names, dates of birth, and other personal details of applicants who are already in possession of valid biometric passports.

“All affected individuals in Spain are advised to contact the designated Immigration Officer, AICO Moses Mendy, at the Biometric Passport Office to facilitate the resolution of these issues in line with the required documentation procedures,” the statement noted.

The GID further disclosed that out of 1,823 applications received across Spain and Italy, a total of 1,308 passports have been processed and delivered. These were officially handed over on 21 May 2026 to the Embassy of the Republic of The Gambia in Spain for onward distribution to applicants.

Additionally, the department noted that 389 applications enrolled in Milan, Italy, are currently undergoing processing. These outstanding cases constitute the remaining balance of applications recorded during the exercise.

The Gambia Immigration Department reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the authenticity, integrity, and reliability of Gambian passports and other legal identity documents. It emphasized that, as document fraud continues to evolve globally, the department will intensify its verification mechanisms to ensure compliance with both national legislation and international standards.

The department also reiterated its dedication to facilitating access to legal identity for eligible Gambians while maintaining strict adherence to established regulations. It urged citizens to ensure accuracy and consistency when applying for official documents, noting that such diligence is critical in combating document fraud and preserving the integrity of The Gambia’s identity management system.
