Gambians To Elect NAMs On 9th April

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said National Assembly Elections would be held on 9th April 2022.

“The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), in exercise of its mandate under Section 96 of the Constitution of The Gambia and Section 40 of the Elections Act, wishes to inform the general public that National Assembly Elections for all constituencies in The Gambia will be conducted on Saturday 9th April, 2022,” the commission said in a statement on Monday.

On the day, Gambians would elect 53 National Assembly Members (NAMs) for the 53 constituencies of the country who would comprise the next cohort of parliamentarians of the country

They would be joined by 5 members who would be nominated by President Barrow from whom the speaker of the house would be chosen for a 5-year term.

In April 2018, Gambians voted the current members of the parliament who would be replaced by those to be elected in the 9th April election.
