Gambian Contingent Off To Turkey For Islamic Games

The Gambia National Olympics Committee (GNOC) has confirmed that the country’s contingent is off to Konya, Turkey for the Islamic Games.
“Our contingent in Banjul is off to Konya, Turkey for the 5th Islamic Games. The team in Birmingham will join them on Monday and Tuesday. The Gambia will be participating in Judo, Athletics, Basketball 3×3, Swimming, and Para sports,” GNOC said in a statement earlier Sunday.
Twenty-five (25) athletes would be representing the Gambia at the 2021 Islamic Games in Konya, Turkey from 9th to 19th August 2022.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Solidarity Games is a multinational, multi-sport event. The Games involve the elite athletes of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation who compete in a variety of sports. The Solidarity Games were initially created to strengthen Islamic camaraderie and reinforce the values of Islam, primarily to the youth.
