Gambia Won 2 Gold Medals At 5th Islamic Games

Gambia won gold medals in the Women’s 200m and Women’s 4x100m at the just ended 5thIslamic Games in Turkey.

“The 5th Islamic Solidarity Games officially closed in Konya, Turkey. Gambia won two golds at the games. Women’s 200m. Women’s 4x100m,” the Gambia Olympic Committee posted on Facebook.

The Gambia National Olympics Committee (GNOC) on 7th August confirmed the departure of the Banjul contingent to Turkey for the delayed 2021 Islamic Games; and said the team that participated in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham would join them on 8th and 9th August. 

Upon arrival in Turkey, Team Gambia that comprised 25 athletes participated in many track and field events including Judo, Athletics, Basketball 3×3, Swimming, and Para sports from 9th to 19th August.

The Islamic Solidarity Games is a multinational, multi-sport event that involves the athletes of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) who compete in a variety of sports to strengthen Islamic camaraderie and reinforce the values of Islam, primarily to the youth.
