African Petroleum said they have a license right over two of Gambia’s prospective oil wells, a claim the country denies.
Cherno Marenah has told Kerr Fatou that the story published by the Africa Intelligence claiming Gambia Government is negotiating an out-of-court settlement with the oil company is untrue.
The Africa Intelligence, claimed in their report that rather than risk a costly case against the African Petroleum, the Gambian government is negotiating a settlement.
The African Petroleum has taken Gambia to International Centre for Settlement of Investment Dispute over licenses of two prospective oil blocks the country has taken from them.
Gambia said the license for the oil company has expired in December 2016, a claim that AP denies.
They took the government to court on grounds that their license was not expired.
“We have a strong case… We believe in the strength of our case. In cases where we have doubts we will certainly advise the Government,” said the Solicitor General Marenah.
Meanwhile, AP has also announced another litigation against Senegal at the ICSID over license.
