The Finance and Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly (FPAC) on Tuesday asked Mansakonko Area Council to redo its Financial and activity report and resubmit it by 7th of April 2023.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Alhagie S. Darboe, explained to officials of the Mansakonko Area Council why they need to redo their financial and activity reports.

“The Committee have decided that Mansakonko Area Council should redo their financial and activity reports. For the simple reason that the auditor’s position is that the accompanied financial statement does not present fairly the financial position of the Council, taking into consideration some of the issues that are raised. We want you to make adjustments in those areas we observed, and the balance sheet was not available.

“There is no comparative reporting, and the variants and trials balance as well. These are issues we feel you should make adjustments to. In those areas, likewise, the auditor’s query has been advanced. There is a need for the adjustment, you can equally do so,” Hon. Darboe said.

The Chairperson added that the other issue is about the opening balance issues, which they raised and were not available.

Hon. Darboe stated that the activity report of the Mansakonko area council was somehow “confusing.”

“On the activity report, it was somehow confusing. The two-in-one report that was given was both relevant. What we want you to do is to reconcile and then come up with one document that could reflect the Substantive report from Mansakonko Area Council,” he said.

The National Audit Office said the Financial Statements of Mansakonko Area Council for the year 2019 do not fairly present its financial position and its performance from 1st January 2019 to 31st December 2019.

The auditors said the statements do not conform with the Local Government Act, 2002 Financial & Accounting Manual for Local Government Authorities 2009, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
