A coalition of 15 opposition political parties, movements, and civil society organizations concluded its third strategic session on Saturday, May 2, 2026, adopting key governance frameworks as part of efforts to present a unified front ahead of the 2026 presidential election, with the stated goal of defeating the incumbent.
The Coalition Task Force described the meeting as a significant step toward building a credible and cohesive opposition alliance, focused on consolidating foundational frameworks to ensure effective collaboration, transparency, and electoral readiness.
According to a press statement issued by Ebrima Bah, Secretary General of the Coalition Mediation Committee, the session was hosted by the United Democratic Party (UDP) at the Baobab Holiday Resort.
Among the key outcomes, the task force conducted a comprehensive review of the proposed Code of Conduct, including the integration of clear enforcement and penalty clauses.
“The adoption of this code will ensure discipline, mutual respect, and accountability among all coalition members,” the statement read.
In a push for broader unity, the Common Platform members also initiated the drafting of a shared policy and governance agenda designed to align the coalition’s vision and priorities. The framework is expected to serve as the foundation for a unified campaign platform.
The release further noted that the general assembly agreed on follow-up actions by the Coalition Mediation Committee to engage other coalition groups, aiming to bring them on board and prevent further fragmentation.
On electoral integrity, the task force received updates on an ongoing legal assessment of reported irregularities in voter registration. “This effort underscores the coalition’s commitment to safeguarding electoral integrity and advocating for a free, fair, and transparent electoral process,” the statement added.
A transitional mechanism committee, covering the period from May to September 2026, will circulate its plan to all stakeholders to guide the implementation of agreed activities, the statement said.
The task force announced that the fourth strategic session is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026, and will be hosted by the APP-Sobeyaa Political Pa
“The Coalition Task Force reiterates its unwavering commitment to unity, inclusiveness, and democratic principles,” the statement emphasized. “The progress achieved during this session reflects the shared determination of all stakeholders to work collaboratively in the national interest and to provide credible leadership for the future.”
The parties and movements at the talks include the ADD, APP SOBEYA, CCC, APRC No To Alliance, GPAP, PAP, UDP, UMC, NDP, GMP, Wareef, PASTEF Gambia, PRP, GDC, and GFA, alongside civil society organizations.
