The Chairman of the Brikama Area Council, Yankuba Darboe, has declared that the United Democratic Party (UDP) is fully prepared to bring an end to the National People’s Party’s (NPP) rule in the upcoming 2026 presidential election.
Speaking at the Banjul International Airport during the welcoming of UDP leader Ousainu Darboe from his European tour, Chairman Darboe expressed confidence in the party’s growing strength and unity.
“We remain very confident, and the numbers you see today prove that the UDP is far more solid and stronger today than it has ever been before. We are fully ready for 2026, and we are going to effect change,” he said.
Addressing concerns over recent resignations within the party, Chairman Darboe dismissed any notion that such departures had weakened the UDP, asserting instead that the party’s support base continues to grow.
“The crowd you are seeing here has not reduced; the numbers have increased,” he maintained.
He further noted that while there were once camps and factions within the UDP, those divisions no longer exist, as the party now stands united under a single banner—the United Democratic Party.
The Brikama Area Council Chairman stressed that the party’s unity is stronger than ever, adding that they will not be disclosing their strategy for the 2026 presidential election at this time.
