Barrow Pledges 30% Salary Increase for Workers if Re-Elected

President Adama Barrow has pledged a 30 percent salary increase for workers if re-elected in the December 5, 2026, presidential election.
Speaking at a National People’s Party (NPP) rally in Brikama on Saturday, June 20, 2026, President Barrow told supporters that his government would implement the salary increment after the election.
“I am informing workers that after the 5th of December, I will add 30% to their salaries,” the president said.
Barrow also vowed to continue investing in infrastructure and public services, promising the construction of more roads, schools, and hospitals should he secure another term in office.
The president used the occasion to criticize United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainu Darboe over comments made during a recent interview in which Darboe said he would like to be remembered for eradicating hunger in The Gambia if elected president.
According to Barrow, the statement came after the interviewer suggested that he would be remembered for his administration’s road construction projects. He argued that Darboe’s remarks implied that Gambians were suffering from widespread hunger.
“Are Gambians hungry? Who is hungry in The Gambia?” Barrow asked supporters, before adding that Darboe’s political influence had diminished.
The president further called on members of the NPP and its allied parties to remain united ahead of the election, describing the turnout at the Brikama rally as evidence of strong support for his candidacy.
He expressed confidence that the ruling party and its allies would emerge victorious in the December 5 presidential poll.
