In a bid to invigorate the country’s cultural landscape and elevate local talent, Africell Gambia on Friday launched two nationwide initiatives aimed at fostering artistic expression and strengthening the creative industry: the Africell Talent Hunt and the Africell Love Song Competition.

The unveiling, held at the GCCI Trade Fair Grounds, marked the telecommunications giant’s latest investment in youth empowerment through the arts. The Talent Hunt, which will traverse the country’s regions, seeks to discover performers in disciplines such as music, dance, poetry, and comedy, offering participants a platform to display their skills and compete for prizes.

“This is not just a Greater Banjul event,” said Waka Jagne, Africell’s Senior PR and Events Manager. “Africell will take the talent hunt up country, will travel across the country in search of the next big star of Gambian Showbiz because talent knows no boundaries and neither do we.”

The inclusivity of the competition, officials said, underscores Africell’s broader commitment to community engagement and cultural development. The initiative is designed to provide equal opportunities for aspiring artists regardless of their background or geographic location.

Parallel to the talent hunt, the Love Song Competition will spotlight original romantic compositions by Gambian songwriters. The contest, which continues Africell’s long standing support for creative expression, is intended to give emerging musicians a platform for national recognition.

“Whether you are a singer, dancer, choreographer, a poet, any sought of artist that you are, you are welcome to be part of this competition because we just want to support you,”said Musa Sise, Africell’s Public Relations Officer. “We want to tell you to discover yourself. We want to encourage you to go the extra mile. That is why we are ahead of everyone and everything in this country in what we do, and it is because of you people who are able to help us and stand by us.”

Mbye Bittaye, Assistant Manager at Africell, added that the competitions reflect the company’s vision of building a vibrant artistic ecosystem and encouraged young talents to take part.

Both initiatives are scheduled to roll out in the coming weeks, with regional auditions and submission calls to be announced through Africell’s media platforms.
