The National Assembly member for Foni Kansala, Almameh Gibba, has described President Adama Barrow’s administration as the most “unserious” government the country has experienced since the precolonial era.

Speaking in an interview with West Coast Radio, Gibba raised concerns over the escalating security situation in the Foni region, asserting that residents are living in fear and that normal community activities have largely ceased.

“Vulnerability is emerging in Foni; women are not going to the gardens, schools are closed, people are displaced, and people are living in fear because we are neglected by this government,” Gibba said.

He criticized the Barrow administration for its perceived inaction, attributing it to fears of Senegal withdrawing its troops from The Gambia. Gibba claimed that the government’s reliance on Senegalese forces undermines its willingness to address local security issues.

“This government acts as if its survival and remaining in power and security depend on Senegal. Any action that they take to inform the Senegalese authorities of the heinous issues that are happening in Foni, they will end up withdrawing their troops,” he stated.

Gibba also questioned the preparedness of Gambian security forces in border villages, asserting that soldiers are often inadequately equipped and “usually run when bullets are fired in the Foni region.” He further suggested that even with a reelection of President Barrow, Senegalese forces would continue to exert influence over key national security matters, including control over the State House.
