Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA), a non-partisan civil society organization dedicated to combating corruption and safeguarding public assets, has issued a statement denying reports that it participated in coalition talks ahead of the 2026 presidential elections.

In a press release, GALA dismissed claims that it attended or took part in meetings aimed at forming a political coalition, including discussions reportedly held at Paradise Suites Hotel. “Contrary to the information circulated, we would like to inform the public that GALA did not attend or participate in any meetings or coalition discussions held at Paradise Suites Hotel or any other venue related to the formation of a political coalition,” the statement said.

The organization reaffirmed its non-partisan position, stressing that it does not engage in party politics. According to GALA, its mandate remains strictly focused on combating corruption, promoting accountability, and advocating for the protection of public assets in the interest of all Gambians. “GALA remains non-partisan and steadfast in our position not to engage in party politics,” the statement read.

GALA further explained that although it received an invitation to the coalition talks, it neither responded to the invitation nor took part in any follow-up discussions or activities. “While we were indeed sent an invitation, we did not respond to it, nor did we take part in any subsequent discussions or activities associated with the coalition talks,” the statement clarified.

Reaffirming its mandate, GALA stressed that it remains strictly nonpartisan and has no plans to endorse, join, or participate in any political alliances. The organization said its sole focus is the recovery of looted public assets and the promotion of national integrity, justice, and the rule of law.

“Our primary concern remains the fight against looted assets and supporting national integrity, justice, and the rule of law. GALA is not aligned with any political party and has no intention of endorsing or participating in any political alliances.”

The statement concluded with an appeal to the public to disregard any claims suggesting GALA’s involvement in political coalition activities, reaffirming its commitment to operating independently and free from political influence. “We urge the public to disregard any statements suggesting otherwise and reaffirm our dedication to our cause, free from political influence.”
