Former National Assembly Member for Niamina East, Honorable Omar Ceesay, has called for a political ceasefire between the United Democratic Party (UDP) and Talib’s Unite Movement for Change (UMC) to give their members—and other opposition forces—the opportunity to reflect and strategize toward reunification.
Ceesay emphasized that the ongoing rivalry between the two parties is creating divisions among citizens and weakening the opposition’s potential to present a united front for national development.
“A political ceasefire should be established between the UDP and the UMC to allow their members, as well as other opposition forces, to rethink and strategize for reunification for the common good,” he stated.
He warned that the persistent political rivalry not only fosters animosity among supporters but also undermines efforts to consolidate the opposition.
“The ongoing political rivalry not only fosters enmity among their supporters and citizens but also undermines the spirit and efforts to unite the opposition into a strong force with shared collective goals,” He Said.
Ceesay further urged both the UDP and the UMC to set aside personal and political differences and collaborate toward forming a cohesive alliance for a better Gambia. “Both the UDP and UMC must recognize the need to set aside their differences, along with other opposition groups, and embrace one another in order to rescue The Gambia,” he added.
