Her Excellency, Dr Fatou Bensouda, Gambia’s High Commissioner in London has presented a certificate of recognition to Imam Muhammed Sarr of Ijaba Mosque and two leaders of the Gambian community in London for their service to the people and leadership.
Similarly, Mrs Sainabou Gassama was awarded for her leadership in the East London Gambian community, and Retired Rev’d Femi Cole for her continued role in promoting spirituality and charity work among Gambians in the U.K and The Gambia.
Retired Rev’d Femi Cole is described as a long standing friend of The Gambia High Commission and always involved in issues that promotes cohesion, strengthening of faith and patriotism to The Gambia was awarded, according to a statement by the commission.
The High Commissioner encouraged and motivated the group as well as ‘extol them to maintain the spirit of community service’, said the statement.
Deputy High commissioner of the Mission, Mr. Suntou Touray said the United Kingdom is blessed with Gambians who are dedicated and committed to serving the community, it added.
Rev’d Cole thanked the High Commissioner and staff for the gesture and expressed ‘willingness to continue serving God and Humanity’; while Imam Muhammed Sarr thanked the High Commission and called on Gambians to support his congregation at Ijaba Mosque and donate towards their efforts to secure a centre for prayers and cultural activities in London, the statement continued.

Each of the three community leaders received the recognition at a community engagement by the High Commission with the leaders of the Gambian community in London on 3rd October 2022 at the High Commission Building.
