Wuli West Lawmaker Urges Voters to Reject Candidates Unfamiliar With Their Language and Culture

Nfamara Sabally, the National Assembly Member for Wuli West, has urged voters in Wuli to reject political candidates who cannot speak their language or understand their cultural traditions, arguing that such leaders would be unable to serve their interests effectively.
Speaking in Wuli Taibatu in the Upper River Region during President Adama Barrow’s Meet the People Tour, Mr. Sabally questioned why residents should support candidates he described as unfamiliar with their language, customs, and way of life.
“We should not make the mistake of giving power to people who cannot speak our language and don’t know our traditions and cultures,” he said.
Mr. Sabally warned that electing such candidates would bring hardship rather than development to the people of Wuli.
The lawmaker also praised President Barrow’s leadership, describing him as patient and crediting his administration with advancing national development while preserving democratic governance.
He questioned the rationale for replacing a president whom he said had demonstrated a commitment to progress and stability.
Mr. Sabally framed the December presidential election as a choice between continued development under President Barrow and what he characterized as a return to backwardness under the opposition.
He maintained that the people of Wuli favored progress and were aware of the consequences of supporting opposition candidates.
The lawmaker expressed confidence that voters in Wuli would overwhelmingly support President Barrow in the Dec. 5 presidential election.
