Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow and Senegal’s newly appointed Ambassador to The Gambia, Mariam Sey, have pledged to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the two neighbouring nations.

The commitment was made during Ambassador Sey’s courtesy call on the Vice President, marking her first official engagement since assuming office.

Ambassador Sey described the meeting as an opportunity to familiarise herself with the Vice President, exchange greetings, and explore avenues to deepen the longstanding and historic relationship between Senegal and The Gambia.

Highlighting the deep-rooted ties between the two countries, she noted that the connection is nurtured from the grassroots level. “Many Senegalese students spending their summer holidays in The Gambia is a solid foundation for future unity,” she said.

The ambassador further emphasised the need to expand cooperation in key sectors, including media, culture, trade, free movement of people and goods, and shared services, to strengthen regional integration.
