The Reparations Commission has announced the resumption of operations of its Medical Board, marking a renewed effort to address the health needs of victims of past human rights violations.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the commission said the medical board has officially resumed work following its transfer from the Ministry of Justice. The board is tasked with assessing victims’ medical conditions and facilitating referrals for further treatment.

The commission said the service is part of its broader rehabilitation mandate, which seeks to support victims’ physical and psychological recovery, restore dignity, and promote long-term well-being.

The Medical Board serves individuals who suffered violations between July 1994 and January 2017, a period covered under the recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission.

Victims experiencing health challenges linked to those violations have been invited to schedule appointments through the commission. Those assessed will receive free medical evaluations and, where necessary, referrals to appropriate health facilities.

The commission advised applicants to present any existing medical records to support the assessment process. It also assured that all evaluations would be conducted with confidentiality, professionalism, and respect for the dignity of victims.

Established by an Act of Parliament in 2023 and operational since 2025, the Reparations Commission is responsible for implementing reparations measures recommended by the TRRC, including compensation, rehabilitation, and restitution.
