President Adama Barrow is scheduled to deliver his State of the Nation Address on March 26, 2026, during the first ordinary session of the 2026 legislative year of the National Assembly.

The announcement was made at a press conference by the clerk of the National Assembly, Kalipha MM. Mbye, who said the date had been set in accordance with the president’s constitutional obligation to address lawmakers.

“The President of the Republic is required by law to address Parliament or a session of Parliament during this period,” Mr. Mbye said. “A date has been set aside—March 26, 2026 — for him to fulfill this constitutional requirement.”

The annual address, a centerpiece of the parliamentary calendar, will take place during the first ordinary session, which is scheduled to run from March 2 to April 1, 2026.

Lawmakers are also expected to consider several key committee reports during the session, including findings from a special select committee investigating the sale and disposal of assets belonging to former President Yahya Jammeh.

“The committee is expected to table its report during this session,” Mr. Mbye said. He added that the Assembly would also receive a report assessing the performance of the agricultural sector and compliance with environmental legislation.

Additional reports are anticipated on infrastructure project monitoring and value-for-money assessments, measures lawmakers say are central to strengthening public sector accountability.

“These reports are not procedural formalities,” Mr. Mbye said. “They are instruments of institutional accountability within our government structure.”

The upcoming session is expected to set the legislative tone for the year, with oversight and transparency high on the agenda.
