Police charged NAM Ya-Kumba Jaiteh
The firebrand Nominated National Assembly member Ya-Kumba Jaiteh has been charged by police in Serekunda who accused her of assault and obstruction. Accompanied by her father and fellow parliamentarians , the Dippa Kunda female lawyer politician was charged with obstructing a police officer on duty, to wit arresting a man suspected of being in possession of cannabis.
According to reliable sources and other accounts the alleged incident happened in Kololi Tarvern where Mrs Jaiteh is said to be residing. It is alleged that officers from the anti-drug police NDLEA conducted a raid at the gate of the compound leading to the arrest of man by the name Maccaully. It is not immediately known how Madam Jaiteh got involved but the matter was referred to the police who invited and later charged her with obstruction and assault.
Jaiteh was seen in the company of fellow NAMS Sana Jawara, Touma Njie, Bakary Njie and Sulayman Saho and host of supporters who came to the police station in solidarity. It is expected that Mrs Jaiteh will be released on bail pending a possible trial.
