Niro Company Limited has launched two new awards to honor excellence in aviation safety at Banjul International Airport. The announcement was made by Chief Executive Officer Sulayman Cham as part of the company’s commemoration of Aviation Safety Week 2025, held under the theme “Promoting Apron and Runway Safety.”
The newly established honors—the CEO’s Champion Safety Award and the CEO’s Giant Safety Award—are designed to inspire both individuals and institutions to uphold the highest safety standards.
The CEO’s Champion Safety Award, carrying a prize of D50,000, will be presented annually to a Niro staff member who demonstrates exceptional dedication to apron and runway safety. The CEO’s Giant Safety Award, the company’s highest distinction, will recognize the best-performing organization or institution that consistently prioritizes safety practices.
“These awards will be overseen by the Civil Aviation Safety Team, ensuring fairness, transparency, and credibility. By introducing these awards, Niro is not only leading by example but also encouraging every individual and institution at Banjul International Airport to embrace safety as a personal and collective mission and responsibility,” he said.
Cham emphasized that the initiative underscores Niro’s reputation as a driver of innovation and safety in Gambian aviation.
“As the champion of innovation in this industry, today I am delighted to make an important announcement that will further strengthen our collective commitment to safety and unparalleled service in the Gambian aviation industry,” Cham said.
Highlighting the company’s leadership role, he said, “We invest boldly, bringing innovations and equipment never seen before in our country; we respond decisively, stepping up not just for our clients but for all of Gambian aviation; and we represent The Gambia with pride, ensuring every aircraft movement reflects the reputation of our beloved nation.”
Reaffirming Niro’s long-term commitment, CEO Sulayman Cham pledged to keep the company at the forefront of apron and runway safety while continually raising service standards.
“I reaffirm Niro’s pledge: to remain at the forefront of apron and runway safety, to continue raising the bar in service delivery, and to uphold our position as the undisputed leader and innovator of Gambian aviation,” he said.
Cham further emphasized Niro’s collective vision with its partners, regulators, and government:
“Together with our partners, regulators, and government, we will ensure that Gambian aviation is not only safe but globally competitive. Together we recommit to not only making Banjul International Airport the Smiling Coast of Africa but also a continental beacon of hope, safety, efficiency, and service excellence,” he said.
