The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced the disbursement of D8.4 million in July 2025 to support various sports associations and teams across The Gambia. Officials say the funding has already translated into remarkable performances on the international stage, with Gambian athletes securing record-breaking medal counts and championship titles.

“From the courts to the tracks, the sandy beaches, and even academic arenas, Gambians are making waves, and the government, through the Ministry of Youth & Sports is making sure our champions have the support they deserve,” the ministry stated.

Funding Breakdown:

1. D7 million went to the Gambia National Olympic Committee for Gambia’s participation in the African School Games — featuring basketball, beach volleyball, athletics, long jump, wrestling, judo, and swimming.

2. D1 million was given to the Gambia Basketball Association for the Zone 2 Afrobasket Basketball Championship in Guinea.
